Surgery Instructions for Cats

Your cat is scheduled for a surgical procedure. Please follow these instructions carefully to ensure a safe experience and smooth recovery.

Drop-Off & Pick-Up

  • Drop-off time: Between 8:30 AM and 9:00 AM on the day of surgery

  • Pick-up time: The following day during one of these windows:

    • 11:00 AM to 11:20 AM

    • 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM

Feeding Instructions

  • No food after 10:00 PM the night before surgery

  • Water is okay overnight, but please remove it in the morning

  • Do not give any treats, breakfast, or medications unless instructed otherwise

Day-of Updates

You’re welcome to call us after 12:00 PM on the day of surgery for an update and a general timeline for pick-up the next day.

Dr. Hageman keeps all feline surgical patients overnight for monitoring, pain control, and a stress-free recovery.

Going Home

At pick-up, our team will review:

  • Medications

  • At-home care instructions

  • Recheck or follow-up appointment details

You will also receive written discharge instructions for your cat.

When to Call Us

Contact us right away if your cat shows any of the following:

  • Not eating or drinking within 24 hours

  • Vomiting or diarrhea

  • Lethargy that lasts more than 24 hours

  • Redness, swelling, or discharge at the incision

  • Excessive licking or chewing at the incision
